UPDATE
As the government shutdown continues, the initial IRS 5-day staffing plan has passed. A new contingency plan was released on Oct. 8 that outlines how the agency will operate during the ongoing lapse in government funding. Most taxpayer services, non-critical administrative work, and communications will be paused until funding is passed.
The details of the new contingency plan include:
- E-filing remains open, but processing times and refunds may be delayed.
- The Taxpayer Advocate Services are all closed.
